OutdoorStaff Stage National Careers Event at ExCel, London
Outdoorstaff.co.uk, the specialist outdoors job site from 247 recruit, brought together over 40 speakers from the adventure, snowsports and travel industries to stage a national careers event for the outdoors sector at Excel, London last weekend.
"Careers In The Outdoors" took place within the Outdoors Show from 13-16 January running alongside the London Boat Show and the London Bike Show. A dedicated Careers Stage was the venue for over 40 talks from people working in the industry. Speakers provided an insight on their own career path and the diverse range of opportunities available within this expanding employment sector. 247recruit's specialist outdoor job site OutdoorStaff.co.uk provided a "Careers Cafe" where visitors could chat to careers advisors and browse jobs or traiing courses online. Visitors to Careers In The Outdoors included employees already working in the sector as well as thousands of potential new candidates considering a move into the sector. Over 40 FE and HE colleges also brought student groups to attend the speaker sessions.
The highlight of the event was "The Great Outdoor Qualifications Debate" which took place on Thursday 13th January. This involved a panel of outdoor employers, training providers and representatives from national bodies debated the latest developments in outdoor training and qualifications. They also answered questions put forward by other employers, students and outdoor sector workers in the audience. Topics covered included issues relating to Apprenticeships, national governing body (NGB) awards, NVQs, Degrees and National Occupational Standards.
Commenting on the success of the event, Andrew Bird, MD of OutdoorStaff.co.uk said "We have been delighted with the positive feedback from visitors, employers and speakers. This event gives the sector a unique platform to promote itself to a massive audience of over 100,000 passive candidates. This industry has some great characters who have had amazing career journeys.
